Graduate Application – VUFC Scholarship

The Virginia Urban Forest Council Scholarship Program strives to enhance the ranks of future urban forestry professionals by providing financial assistance to students studying urban forestry and related curricula at Virginia colleges.  The scholarship selection committee will critically assess the areas described below when reviewing scholarship applications.

  • Does the applicant show evidence of strong academic ability?
  • Does the applicant demonstrate a compelling interest in, or dedication to, the field of urban forestry?
  • Does the applicant have the ability to work independently and think critically?
  • Does the applicant’s future career ambitions and/or interests have the potential for significant impact on urban forests and urban forestry (national impact is preferred)?
  • Is the applicant’s research project well thought out and will it have a significant impact on urban forestry?

The online application (including the advisor recommendation form) must be received by November 30, 2016.

When you have completed the online application, click “Submit” and your application will be transmitted to our selection committee.  We recommend that you print the completed application before submission to keep in your records.  Remember to have the recommendation form completed by a faculty mentor.  You will receive an email acknowledgement of your online application within 5 days of submission.  If you do not receive an acknowledgement, please contact us at arborist@vt.edu.  Scholarship recipients will be notified of their award by January 31, 2017.

Note: Incomplete applications (i.e. failure to submit the recommendation form) will not be considered for the scholarship award.
